This was John’s final multi-day art retreat! Due to health concerns and other committments, John has decided to call it a day on art-retreat teaching.
Two late-cancellations, meant that Tin Dragon Cottages didn’t achieve our minimum six registrations needed for a viable retreat. However, because this was John’s final teaching commitment, we decided to go ahead anyway. I know each of our four attendees felt privileged to have had the opportunity to learn from John!
First Evening Introductions!
Our private chef provided the wow factor to start off the retreat! First up, local cured meats and cheeses, complemented by a vibrant selection of fresh fruits and an assortment of delectable dips, created a tantalizing platter for our guests to enjoy. Then, fresh seafood mains and perfect panna cotta dessert–all complemented with refreshing sparkling wine and quince-apple cider–ensured our guests were inspired for their next days of creativity.
First Day: Setting the Scene for the Seascapes Art retreat
Day Two: consolidation
Day Three: finishing touches and farewell river BBQ
Comments from our guests
From Gabrielle: It was a very enjoyable and instructive art retreat and our art made it back safely. The studio is perfect with all that natural light and the accommodation and food was excellent. I am most grateful that we were able to attend John’s retreat before he stopped giving them. He is a brilliant artist and an excellent teacher. I appreciate the effort that the three of you put in to make it such an enjoyable experience.
From Miriam: I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, your hospitality, the beautiful setting and accommodation. It was a real privilege to have John as our tutor, I learnt so much and feel inspired to keep painting in acrylics. I have many happy memories of our weekend painting together.
I wish John good health and enjoyment as he continues to create beautiful landscapes to exhibit.
All the best with your family business, Christine, Graham, James (and Fraser).

I am devastated that I didn’t jump and join this retreat. I saw your advert that there were two space available and contemplated asking work for time off. However I’ve had multiple family emergencies this year with 5 interstate trips requiring me to take time off work. I’m gutted that I didn’t take another. Please tell John I wish him all the best. And if he decides to do another at any time, please let me know. I will definitely join him.

Thank you for commenting! We have other art retreats planned in 2024, but sadly John Gibb is not able to commit to future retreats.
