Simple Guide for a Good Sauna Experience.
Saunas are enjoyable and offer real health benefits. But there can be risks if you push beyond your body’s capability. We request that you read this simple guide before booking your sauna session.
Medical Warnings
If you have heart disease, low blood pressure, diabetes or are pregnant or on medication – please gain medical clearance before booking your sauna session.
Listen to your body. Leave the sauna if you feel dizzy, nauseous or tight in the chest. Rest outside till you feel better, and seek help if you don’t feel better after a short rest.
Hydration
Do NOT drink alcohol before or during a sauna. Avoid eating a large meal before taking your sauna.
Drink cool water before, during and after your sauna. Cool water and disposable cups are provided in our change room.
Take it Slowly
Start slow with short sessions of 5 to 10 minutes. Be aware of how the temperature affects your body. As your body adapts, you can extend your sessions up to 15 minutes. Sauna temperature should be between 75 deg and 85 deg C.
Cool Down
Cool down between sauna sessions by plunging into our 2.6m deep (cold) pool or by taking a cold shower.
The constrast of hot and cold is invigorating! (Please do not dive into our pool)
Cool Down Completely
It is essential that you relax, and cool down completely before you dress and leave. So take a final plunge or shower, have a cool drink and sit for a few minutes.
Mindfulness
To achieve the most from your sauna session, focus your attention only on the present moment. Listen to your breathing, watch the tailrace water wheel and allow your body to relax. Enjoy the physical stimulation of hot and cold.
